§ 4.06. Potentially rabid animals.

  • (a)

    The owner or any other person having knowledge shall immediately report to the county animal control any dog, cat or other animal, whether vaccinated or not, which:

    (1)

    Has been bitten by another animal, which animal exhibits symptoms of, or is suspected of, having rabies;

    (2)

    Which has bitten any person; or

    (3)

    Which exhibits symptoms of rabies.

    (b)

    Such dogs, cats, or other animals shall be kept under such observation as required by the county animal control.

    (c)

    It shall be unlawful for any person who has reasonable notice that a dog, cat, or other animal is rabid to fail to notify the county animal control or to dispose of any dog, cat, or other animal inconsistent with this article.

    (d)

    If any dog, cat, or other animal showing symptoms of rabies or suspected of having rabies cannot safely be taken, enclosed or kept impounded according to the provisions hereof, the county animal control may order same destroyed, at the expense of the owner.
